The activity is the useful first difference

Bath’s Roman Baths requires a ticket and time slot. York’s National Railway Museum offers free general admission, with separate arrangements for paid extras. That difference is a good reason to cost the activity early; it is not enough to declare either destination cheaper overall.

Route headlines are not matched journey results

Compare actual outbound and return trains from Paddington and King’s Cross for the same weekend. Paddington services are affected on 28–29 November 2026, so check the engineering notice before committing to Bath. Include travel from home to each departure station.

Choose the weekend that fits

Choose Bath when the Roman Baths is the point of the break and you can make its ticket, luggage plan and travel work comfortably. Choose York when railway collections are the stronger draw and you want paid extras to remain optional. If neither main visit appeals, these are not the right two places to compare.

Compare the same accommodation unit

YHA Bath and YHA York each list shared beds, private rooms and en-suite private room types. Bath is on Bathwick Hill; York is in Clifton. Compare the total unit for your party and nights, plus the route from the station, rather than comparing a dorm-bed headline to a room total.

Read the chosen plan

Read the Bath dossier and Bath weekend, or the York dossier and York weekend. Start again at the London departure desk if the actual train options change the choice.
