Direct services link London Paddington with Bath Spa and London King’s Cross with York. Getting from home to either departure station belongs in your budget and time plan. Search your outbound and return dates together before choosing a room.
A near-term disruption to check
GWR’s planned-engineering page currently says all London Paddington services are affected on 28–29 November 2026. A normal route-page journey time is not a plan for that weekend. Read the detailed notice and run a dated search before booking Bath accommodation.
Where the activity money goes
The Roman Baths requires a ticket and booked time slot. York’s National Railway Museum has free general admission, with separate arrangements for paid extras. That gives the weekends different starting points for your activity budget; it does not establish which whole trip costs less.

Pick Bath if a Roman Baths visit is the reason for travelling and its date-specific ticket and journey fit your ceiling. Pick York if the museum plan appeals and you prefer to leave optional paid activities out. Cost both with the same party, nights and return window.
